Reliant Supports South Plains Food Bank with $50,000 for Hunger Relief

05/06/2022

Donation and volunteer efforts will provide meals to hundreds of food-insecure families in West Texas

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – May 6, 2022 – Reliant announced today that it has committed $50,000 to the South Plains Food Bank to support important programs like the Children’s Feeding Programs, providing snacks, meals and more to children and families in Lubbock and across West Texas. The contribution, $10,000 annually for the next five years, will fund 150,000 meals.

Reliant provides electricity, security and related services to homes and businesses across Texas. The company will bring its nationally recognized and outstanding customer experience to Lubbock residents next year.

To celebrate the donation, Reliant employees joined the South Plains Food Bank team for a day of volunteering, distributing food boxes to more than 100 families in need. Families received a “Dry Food Box” filled with shelf-stable goods, a “Freezer Box” filled with frozen items, and a “Catch of the Day” box filled with baked goods and fresh produce.

“We are grateful and excited about the positive impact that we can make in our community with our new friends at Reliant,” said Dina Jeffries, chief executive officer at the South Plains Food Bank. “Heading into summer, the need in our community is great, with many families relying on schools for breakfast and lunch during the week. That’s why our Children’s Feeding Programs are so important, and partners like Reliant will help us reach even more families.”

Across West Texas, more than 60,000 families face food insecurity on a recurring basis.  South Plains Food Bank and Reliant are taking the first step towards a long future of fighting hunger together.

“At Reliant, we are passionate about being a positive force in our communities, and we are excited to work with the South Plains Food Bank to help our neighbors in need,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president, Reliant. “We are honored to make this donation to further the organization’s mission to alleviate hunger and give hope to the hungry. We look forward to forging deeper connections with partners that are making an impact in West Texas.”
